Fur babies welcome · Murbad, Western Ghats

Bring the dog

Twenty acres of enclosed farm with no through traffic, two stays where he sleeps in the room with you, and a policy short enough to read before you book.

  • Up to 2Fur babies per room
  • 2 of 4Stays that take them
  • 20Acres to run on
  • A fewResident farm dogs

Stated plainly

The policy, in one screen

  • Two fur babies per room, maximum.
  • They stay in the room with you. There is no kennel and nothing gets left outside overnight.
  • Which room depends on size. Under 7 kg — our Nuggets — go in the Swiss Glamping Cottage. Seven kilos and above — the Snuggles — go in the Balinese Villa.
  • Tell us when you book. There is a fur-baby field on the booking form for exactly this. It matters because only some of the rooms are set up for it.
  • Vaccinations up to date, and please bring the card.
  • You are responsible for anything they chew, dig or damage. Said once, and we will not mention it again.

The full house rules are on a single sheet you can read from the booking page before you commit to anything.

A word on the wording

Pet friendly resorts near Mumbai, and why we are not quite one

People search for pet friendly resorts near Mumbai, and search engines will happily show you this page for it. But if you have been through a few of those listings you will know the pattern: pets allowed on the lawn, pets not allowed in the room, pets not allowed near the restaurant, a surcharge, and a form to sign at reception.

A farm works differently, mostly because there is more of it. Twenty acres, no through road, and dogs already living here. There is no lawn he is being kept off, because the whole place is lawn. We are not a resort and we stopped pretending to be one — that is a separate story — but for a dog the difference is the entire point.

Where they can go, and the two places they can’t

Almost everywhere. The orchard rows, the lawns, the walk down towards the Kalu river, the sit-out at your room, the paths between the cottages. Off-lead is fine in the open parts of the farm if your dog recalls reliably; on the approach road, please clip him back on.

The two exceptions: the swimming pools, and inside the Farm Kitchen. The kitchen is a working kitchen with certification attached to it, and the pools are for people. Everything else is open.

The far boundary of the farm is fenced but it is a farm fence, not a dog-proof one. If yours is a determined escapee, keep an eye near the western edge.

The resident farm dogs

There are a few, they live here, and they have met a great many visiting dogs. The usual pattern is ten noisy minutes at the gate followed by complete indifference for the rest of the weekend.

They are not confined while you are here, so if your dog is reactive to other dogs, tell us when you book and we will keep them apart at arrival — which is when it matters. After that most guests find the problem solves itself.

One guest wrote up a morning walk with them, which will give you a fair idea of the temperament.

Practical

The things people actually worry about

The nearest vet

Murbad, about twenty minutes away, with a clinic that handles small animals. We keep the number at reception and we will call ahead for you rather than hand you a phone. For anything serious, Kalyan is the next step up and roughly an hour.

Ticks

It is farmland in the Western Ghats, so yes, especially between June and September. Use whatever preventive you normally use before you travel, and check him over at the end of a long walk. It is a genuine consideration, not a scare.

Heat

April and May afternoons are hard on a thick-coated dog. There is shade everywhere and cool floors in both rooms, but plan walks for early morning and after five.

Food

Bring his. The kitchen cooks for people and we would rather not experiment on your dog. We can supply plain rice and curd at any hour if something has gone wrong.

Snakes and farm wildlife

Present, as on any farm in this landscape. They keep away from noise and so does most of the wildlife. The staff know the ground and will tell you which corners to skip in monsoon.

Other guests

The farm is fourteen rooms, so it is never crowded, but not every guest is a dog person. Lead on the shared paths near the kitchen and everyone gets along.

The two rooms

Where the fur babies sleep

Under 7 kg in canvas, 7 kg and above in the villa. It is about floor space and door width rather than any judgement of your dog.

Questions people ask

Is Nehamrit Farms pet friendly?

Yes. Up to two fur babies per room, in two of the four stays, sleeping in the room with you rather than in a kennel. Under 7 kg go in the Swiss Glamping Cottage; 7 kg and above go in the Balinese Villa.

Why does the size of the dog decide the room?

Floor space and door width, nothing else. The Swiss Glamping Cottage is 366 square feet of canvas-walled cottage, which suits a small dog well and a large one badly. The Balinese Villa is 600 square feet with a private deck and its own walled pool area, which gives a bigger dog room to settle.

Is there a charge for bringing a pet?

Tell us on the booking form and we will confirm anything applicable for your dates along with your booking. What we will not do is spring a surcharge on you at reception.

Can dogs go off-lead?

In the open parts of the farm, yes, if your dog recalls reliably. Please lead him on the approach road and on the shared paths near the Farm Kitchen. The perimeter is fenced, but with a farm fence rather than a dog-proof one.

Where can dogs not go?

Two places only: the swimming pools, and inside the Farm Kitchen. Everywhere else on the twenty acres is open to them.

What about your own dogs?

We have resident farm dogs and they are not shut away during your stay. They are thoroughly used to visitors. If yours is reactive, say so when you book and we will manage the arrival separately — that is the only moment it usually matters.

Where is the nearest vet?

Murbad, about twenty minutes from the gate, for small animals. Kalyan is around an hour away for anything more serious. We hold both numbers at reception and will make the call ourselves if you need us to.

Do I need to bring vaccination records?

Yes, please bring the card. Up-to-date vaccinations are a condition of the stay, both for your dog and for the ones who live here.
